The NZ Native
Forests Restoration Trust is New Zealand's leading organisation involved
in forest restoration. Founded in 1980 following the destruction of the
giant totara forests at Pureora, the Trust is now well recognised for its
visionary approach to the protection and restoration of NZ's declining
native forests.
Since 1980 the Trust has: Saved land at the rate of 200 hectares a year to restore degraded forest and increase the survival chances of our threatened native birds. Planted tens of thousands of trees on Trust reserves and other protected areas. Worked in co-operation with the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, the Department of Conservation, the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust and other conservation groups.
The Trustees are a small group of dedicated people who give their time voluntarily. The Trust is assisted in its activities by a growing list of supporters. Some supporters provide financial support while others grow and plant trees, manage reserves etc.
